Engin Akıncı, born in 1967, completed his high school education at Ankara Atatürk Anadolu High School in 1985. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Science in 1989. He studied performing arts and broadcasting production in Winnipeg / Canada. After working at various tv, media and finance institutions such as Deloitte, TGRT, Hür FM, Show Tv and Cine 5. Later Akıncı moved into the music business and started as the Marketing Manager at Sony Music Turkey in 1996.
In 1997, Akıncı continued his work at Sony Music in London, England, and at the Sony Music Europe headquarters. Later, he managed Sony Music Turkey’s local, international, strategic marketing, PR, and A&R departments for nine years. During his tenure as Marketing Director, Engin Akıncı worked with a wide range of local and international artists closely, from Ricky Martin , Celine Dion, J.Lo to Shakira, Anastacia and many süperstar acts.
In 2003, he handled all A&R, PR, and other marketing communication activities for Sertab Erener, who represented Turkey in the Eurovision Song Contest and won the competition. Her hit song everyway that I Can became a global hit, charting in more than 20 countries that also led the artist to release her first English language album which also charted many territories including Japan. Drawing on the experience and knowledge gained at Sony Music UK and Sony Music Turkey, Akıncı guided and supported many artists’ careers and participated in numerous joint projects with international management, production, record companies, production studios, advertising, and film companies.
In 2006, Engin Akıncı founded Zoom Music & Management, bringing a new dimension to his field in terms of artist development and digital marketing. During his time with Zoom, Akıncı worked closely with top brands, nurtured and developed the careers of many superstar level artists and did business with multinational companies, advertisement agencies on entertainment and various music-based projects. Currently he is also working as the vice chairman of the board of BMYD ( Independent record labels association of Turkey ) representing Merlin, Impala and WIN in the Turkish region.
