Dragan Dautovski is a renown musical virtuoso and professor of folk instruments: kaval, gajda, and tambura at the University Sts. Cyril and Methodius. His basic inspiration is Macedonian music folklore idiom. From depth of the folklore, through the various contemporary music aesthetic elements and styles his goal is to create a synthesis of the traditional & modern. Subtle artistic creativity springs from his diverse repertoire, reaching perfection in his virtuosity and expressing the unspeakable. His talent awakens the sensibility of ancient times.
In 1992 he formed the ensemble Mile Kolarovski, which recorded numerous times for Macedonian National Radio – Television. He participated on the music score for the film Before the Rain, 1994 – an Oscar nominee directed by Milcho Manchevski. Dautovski also formed the group DD Synthesis in 1995 and later, Dragan Dautovski Quartet was created in July 2000 in Skopje, Macedonia.
Dragan Dautovski is the author of numerous albums and works for instrumental ensembles and vocal soloists, groups and orchestras, which include Macedonian folk instruments. This musician was also recognized by UNESCO in 2007. He performed at numerous concerts and promoted Macedonian authentic, traditional music with performances at music festivals around the world. At PIN music conference he will perform accompanied by his son, the percussionist Ratko Dautovski.
