Škofja Loka is a vocal-instrumental ensemble from Belgrade that represents a singing and playing entity with a changing form yet a solid attitude – from an instrumental setup to “remix” performances with plenty of electronics.
This organism of furious rhythms is a mix-breed of live music and electronic sound waves, led by a vocal duo on heels “Infernal meringues” with a supporting orchestra of drums, bass, guitar, ukulele, percussion, synth, and a brass section. The band was formed in late spring 2021 at Tricky Art Studio as a group of audio and visual artists.
In March 2024, they released their first album “Ljubim ti dušu” (Kissing your soul) which is on all digital platforms. It is also available on vinyl for those who enjoy the authentic sound of physical releases! The album came out as a fruit of the work of 29 talented souls, recorded in collaboration with producer Petar Rudić (Mravi, Svi na pod) in his studio “Destilerija”.
Their music relies on the most diverse musical styles and trends of the 20th and 21st centuries, from rock’n’roll, to pop, afrobeat, funk, punk, electric boogie, noise, and hip-hop. Their expression is a spontaneous combination and variation of these music genres, mixing the influences of Belgrade’s urban sound based on the new wave, across the alternative and urban pop scene of the nineties, to new forms of music.
The music is danceable and emotional, and the lyrics combine parts of the inner landscape of a modern woman with the external influences of the environment they live in, while the direction is an alternative to the gloomy reality of the big gray city and the shakiness of life. The band members described that direction as Women’s Power Pop with a tendency to embrace each soulmate with open arms and an open heart.
In 2024, they were chosen as one of the winners of the second National Music Competition Serbia Creates: The Spotlight. The Spotlight has selected a new generation of artists from a total of 10 musicians and bands, who will perform for audiences through more than 120 shows at the most well-known regional music festivals in Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Montenegro.
