Işık Sarıhan

I’m an independent label operator, booking agent, event curator-organizer, and musician based in Budapest and Ankara, with one foot in Belgrade, and one eye on Skopje.

As a booking agent I work mainly with BaBa ZuLa, heavenphetamine, and Svetlost.

I run Inverted Spectrum Records which is a boutique label that primarily focuses on alternative and underground music from Hungary, Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey. (invertedspectrumrecords.bandcamp.com)
I organize multi-genre alternative music events such as “Društvo Festival” in Belgrade (5 editions since 2018) and “Festival of Abnormal Music” in Budapest (first edition in 2024) and other smaller-scale events. I specialize in introducing musical acts to audiences who are not from the act’s primary stylistic, subcultural or geographical background, along with scouting out extremely obscure acts and presenting them in a serious manner. I’m also in charge of booking Ajtai-Bujdosó-Czitrom-Gyárfás, a Hungarian allstars free improvisation quartet the formation of which I facilitated, along with Alakváltó Együttes (Shapeshifting Ensemble) for which I put together a different set of prominent improvisers at each concert picked from the psych rock and avant-jazz scenes in Hungary.

I’m a co-founder and the drummer of Hayvanlar Alemi, a psychedelic-experimental folk rock band established in Ankara in 1999, which has published on a variety of labels such as Sublime Frequencies, Glitterbeat, Shalgam Records, and Subsound, and played over a hundred shows in 20 countries. (www.hayvanlaralemi.org) I view my activities as a booker, organizer and publisher partially as a type of artistic-performative act which is an extension of my background as a musician.
