Kornel Šeper has been an active participant in Zagreb’s alternative culture for many years, an enthusiast and initiator of many initiatives on the scene. He was born in 1971 in Zagreb, where he graduated in comparative literature and Russian language at the Faculty of Philosophy. He gained his first experiences working from 1986 to 1990 as a DJ, program editor and organizer of concerts and film screenings at the Črnomerec Youth Club. He is one of the founders of the bands Šumski (1991), Zli bubnjari (1992), Shine Design (1992) and Stampedo (1993).
In 1992, he founded the independent record company Kekere Aquarium, which until 2000 published 25 releases of Croatian and foreign bands. Since 1996, he has collaborated with music and visual artist Milan Manojlović Mance as the editor, producer and publisher of his albums, and is currently editing Mance’s extensive monograph. In 1996 he joined the Association for the Development of Culture “URK”, a group of young people who then restarted the dead alternative music scene of Zagreb and participated in almost all URK projects, such as the eco-cultural festival Ponikve (1997-2002), Island cultivator – summer school of culture on the island of Vis (2001-2003), Human Rights Film Festival (since 2002), project of art workshops Močvarin laboratorij (since 2004), co-establishment of the institution Pogon – Zagreb Center for Independent Culture and Youth (2008) .) and co-establishment of the networks of the Association of Clubs, the Association of Operations City and the Association of Concert Promoters Promo.
He is one of the founders of the cult URK club Močvara, where he still works today. He covers a number of jobs in the URK – from running the club and the association’s finances to editing and booking programs, promotion, fundraising, organizing the association’s archives, and has participated in numerous advocacy activities related to cultural and youth policies. Over the years he has worked as a DJ on the programs Roots of Apparitions, Swamp of Love and SubNoir. He is the editor of the extensive monograph Močvara and the story of URK, which was published in 2018.
