Maja Trstenjak

Since 2007 (14 years old), I have been engaged in music journalism as a music journalist and editor of several of the most popular music web portals in Croatia and the region. Since 2021, I have been the editor-in-chief of the portal Glazba.hr (www.glazba.hr), which was founded by the Croatian Composers’ Society, and which, through the application of a multidisciplinary approach to organizational management and the principle of digitization, has risen to the top as one of the most popular, reputable and relevant music media in the region.

In addition to leadership and continuous improvement of the web portal, I create original content every day such as news, music reviews, reports from concerts and festivals, and interviews. In my journalistic work, I put the primary focus on young and unestablished musicians and musical genres that are not covered in the mainstream media, of which there are many on the Croatian music scene, and the possibilities of promoting their work in the media are quite limited.

I also deal with traditional genres, such as classical and jazz music, but I present them to the audience in a different way than usual, which is how I want to bring them closer or popularize them among the wider population.

From 2007 to 2012, I worked as a journalist and editor of the music portal Venia-Mag, from 2012 to 2017 as editor and later editor-in-chief of the music portal SoundGuardian, and from 2017 to 2021 as editor-in-chief of the music portal Sound Report.

In accordance with the previously mentioned competencies, sixteen years of experience in music journalism, from 2020 I have worked as a lecturer at the Rock&Off School of Journalism, organized by Unison – the Croatian Music Association.

Since 2018, I have been working as a permanent contributor to the magazine “Cantus” of the Croatian Composers’ Society. In 2009 and 2010, I edited and hosted the radio show “Hot Soup”, which was broadcast once a week on Radio Drava and dealt with the problems of young people in the city of Koprivnica, Croatia. From 2017 to 2020, I acted as the manager of the website, and social networks and content creator of the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall.

Since 2016, I have been employed at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Shipbuilding, currently in the position of senior research assistant, in accordance with the excellent success achieved during my studies, which I finished with the highest honor (summa cum laudae) and for which I was awarded two Medals of the Faculty for outstanding success in my studies. From 2018 to 2020, I was the head of the Laboratory for Process Planning at the Faculty’s Chair of Production Design.

I have published more than 40 scientific papers in international journals and proceedings of international conferences.
