Oliver Belopeta

Oliver Belopeta was born in Skopje. He completed his primary and secondary education in Skopje. He studied at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Skopje and obtained a degree in electrical engineering with a specialization in telecommunications in March 1978. Over the past four decades, he has been involved in music journalism (“Studentski Zbor”, “Ekran”, “Jukebox”, “Nova Makedonija”), and has also hosted several radio programs on Macedonian Radio, Kanal 103, and Noma Radio. He has been part of the Skopje Jazz Festival from its very beginning in 1982. Since January 1996, he has been the owner and director of the non-governmental, non-profit Institution for Artistic Activities – Skopje Jazz Festival. The festival has grown to become one of the most significant international events in the country, gaining an excellent global reputation. In addition to its main activity – organizing the prestigious “Skopje Jazz Festival” (with a 43-year tradition), the institution also organizes a second festival, “OFFest” (23 years). Along with all the known organizational activities related to these festivals, Belopeta is also involved in music publishing, with a total of 52 CD releases, mostly featuring Macedonian jazz and ethnic music. He has participated in numerous international and domestic conferences, music fairs, seminars, and workshops. From 2001 to 2005, he was the program director of the Jazz Festival in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Belopeta is an active and long-time member of two very influential organizations in the world: the “Forum of World Music Festivals” (FWMF) and the “European Jazz Network” (EJN). In both organizations, Oliver Belopeta served on the Board of Directors for seven years, and in the European Jazz Network, he was also its General Secretary.
